STUD FOR ARC WELDING WITH REDUCED SHAFT (TYPE RD)

ELEMENTS FOR SHORT ARC AND DRAWN ARC WELDING

WITH THREADS FROM M6 TO M24

The arc welding stud (type RD) is a threaded element with a standard metric thread, but it features a reduced welding shaft compared to the threaded body. This design characteristic allows for a compact weld bead, whose diameter is approximately 0.5–1 mm larger than the thread diameter, simplifying installation and reducing heat input on the sheet metal.

However, due to the reduced welding section, the mechanical strength of the joint is about 15% lower compared to full-section studs such as the (type MPF), (type PD) and (type MD) models, which ensure a more complete fusion with the base material.

The stud (type RD) is supplied complete with a ceramic ferrule and available with threads ranging from M6 to M24, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial applications, especially on medium-thin sheets where thermal stress must be minimized while maintaining good holding performance.

The arc stud (type RD) welding can be carried out using drawn arc with ceramic ferrule, through a stud arc welding machine, or, under certain limitations, by means of gas-shielded arc welding, which allows for a cleaner process in specific environments.

The production of the stud (type RD) uses materials that meet industry standards:

  • Steel 4.8 for standard applications
  • Stainless steel A2-50 for humid or chemically aggressive environments
  • Stainless steel 1.4571 (AISI 316Ti) for high corrosion resistance and high-temperature conditions
